Obituaries: Itata George

OTTUMWA-Itata “Tattie” G. George, 96, of Ottumwa passed away peacefully in her home on December 9, 2016. She was born January 10, 1920 in Batavia, IA.

A graduate of Kirkville High School, Itata was crowned Miss Kirkville in 1936. She worked at Dupy’s Bakery in Ottumwa where she met her husband, Paul. She taught Sunday school for many years and was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Itata was also a member of Rose Chapter #552 Order of Eastern Star.

Itata’s passion was her family, who remembers her fondly for her love of purple and the unending supply of fresh-baked goodies she provided for any occasion. We remember her contagious laugh and the way her smile never failed to light up a room. Friends will remember her creativity in doll-and angel-making, her beautiful flower gardens and her love of cats, which she celebrated party-style on several occasions.

Itata will be missed by her son and daughter, Norman (Nicki) George of Grande Prairie, Canada and Leila (Ed) Scharff of Floris; her granddaughter, Kenzie; two step-granddaughters, colleen (Matt) and Angela; 3 step-great-grandchildren and many close nieces and nephews. Her family is reassured that she is now reunited with her husband, Paul; her parents, Harry and Ida Raffensperger and her brother and sisters, Gerald, Orlea and Zeanetta.

A service of remembrance will take place 1 p.m. Friday December 16, 2016 at Wesley United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Shrimplin officiating followed by a burial ceremony at Chariton Cemetery.

Visitation begins after 11 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may be made to the family.
