OTTUMWA-Jack G. Heinje, 94, of Ottumwa, died at 11:04 p.m. December 20, 2016 at Ridgewood Specialty Care.
He was born October 20, 1922 in Wapello County, IA to Fritz G. and Daisy Marie Edmondson Heinje. He married Mae Marie Kunzman on October 5, 1958 at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Jack was a 1940 graduate of Ottumwa High School. He served his country as a naval aviator from 1942 to 1946 and during World War II he was stationed aboard the USS Intrepid aircraft carrier. He flew a Grumman F6 Hellcat.
He worked at John Deere Ottumwa Works for 33 years and also farmed raising cattle and crops.
Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Mae; a sister, Ruth Jean Eaton of Boise, ID; a nephew, Doug (Janice) Heinje; nieces, Serena Burton and Susan Cox.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Heinje; a brother-in-law, Ralph Eaton and a nephew-in-law, Russ Burton.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Bill Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.
