OHS Offers Catch Up Academy for Students Falling Behind

OTTUMWA— Ottumwa High School is offering a Catch Up Academy several Saturdays this spring to help students get additional help with school work that needs completed.

The first Catch Up Academy is being offered Saturday, February 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The activity is sponsored by GEAR UP.

The idea came from another GEAR UP program, according to Alyx Coble-Frakes, GEAR UP coach at OHS. Her plan is to recruit two teachers from each core area, including English, social studies, math, and science. Student tutors will also be available. “This is a targeted time to get caught up on work,” said Coble-Frakes. “This opportunity for one-on-one tutoring will boost understanding.” Breakfast will also be offered.

Funding to support teacher time is coming from the GEAR UP grant. Other dates this spring include:  April 1, May 6 and May 13.
