OTTUMWA-An Ottumwa man who shot himself during an incident with police has passed away from the injuries he sustained.
On Monday, February 13th, Officers from the Ottumwa Police Department responded to calls that Zachary Lee Davidson, 22, was seen walking in the area of Jay Street and Morrell Drive. A few days before receiving the call, the OPD had asked for the public’s help in locating Davidson. At that time, they stated that he had an active warrant for Operation without Owner’s Consent.
When Officers responded, Davidson ran from them and stopped in a yard near the intersection of Ogden and Ash Streets. As Officers approached the man, he pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head. Life saving measures were started immediately and Davidson was transported to the Ottumwa Regional Health Center, and later to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Davidson succumbed to his injuries later that evening at around 6:56PM.
