Reminisce Society Looks at “Hollywood Through Its Posters”

OTTUMWA-Please join the Reminisce Society on Tuesday, February 28th at 10 AM as Mike Piepel presents “Hollywood Through Its Posters”.  This will be an exploration of the history of the film industry with a focus on Iowa’s influence in the industry.

What is truly more American than the movies? From 1896 when the first nickelodeon was introduced to the golden age of films in the 1930’s, 1940’s, and 1950’s, Americans went to the movies by the millions. “Hollywood Through Its Posters,” tells a unique history of motion pictures through the original posters produced to advertise these movies. The styles, designs, artists, and types of posters, as well as the stars who were larger than life are examined for their contributions to the world of entertainment. Mike Piepel has been a connoisseur of classic films and film posters for over 25 years.

The Reminisce Society’s programs are free and open to everyone. If you are a person with a disability who requires special assistance or for further information, please call the library’s director, Sonja Ferrell at 641-682-7563, extension 202.
