Richard “Bruce” Faber, age 84, of Des Moines, formerly of Moravia, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at his residence in Des Moines.
Bruce was born on September 17, 1932, in Moulton, Iowa to Richard Andrew and Inez (McAlister) Faber. He graduated from Moravia High School, class of 1949. He was enlisted with the United States Air Force. He received his bachelors degree from Coe College in 1953, and then received his masters degree in history from the University of Northern Iowa.
He enjoyed playing rook, country music, and he was always there for a helping hand or if anyone needed someone to talk to. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
He is survived by his wife, Pam Faber of Des Moines; four daughters, Melissa (Tim) McGhghy, Aieda Martinez and Frank Coker, Sharon (Eric) Beattie, Elizabeth (Fred) Bedford, all of Des Moines; twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren with one on the way. He is also survived by one brother, Vaughn (Patty) Faber of Blakesburg, two sister-in-laws, Marilyn Faber of Moravia, Carolyn Bielefeld of Meridian, MS, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Inez Faber, and two brothers, Charles and Irvin Faber.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. Burial with military rites conducted by the American Legion of Albia, Melrose, and Lovilia will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia. A funeral luncheon will be held at 1:00 p.m., at the Grace Methodist Church in Moravia, 101 E. North St. Moravia, Iowa 52571. Visitation will also be held on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 10:00-11:00 a.m., at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. Memorials may be directed to the family.
