OTTUMWA – Dale Martin Reed, 85, of Ottumwa, died at 8 p.m. March 12, 2017 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
He was born January 4, 1932 in Ottumwa to Edward C. and Lora Sloan Reed. He married Anne Marie Dulin and she preceded him in death on January 16, 1977. He married Colleen Clubine Harms on June 10, 1979.
A 1950 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Dale served aboard an aircraft carrier with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked for 49 years for J.C. Penney’s in Ottumwa.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church where he sang in the choir and served on the Parish Council. He was an original member of the Seton Catholic School Board. He was a member of General Shields Council #888 Knights of Columbus and General McMullen Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He had enjoyed bowling, gardening, mowing the yard, being outdoors and traveling.
Surviving is his wife, Colleen; his children, Michelle (David) Nupp, John (Donna) Reed, Joe (Sheila) Reed all of Ottumwa and Mary (Dan) Allen of Stanton, IA; step-children, Christy (Pat) Todey of Burlington and Jeannine (Corey) Roberts of Lisbon; son-in-law, Sam Wagner; 12 grandchildren, Jeanine, Justin, Joshua, Ryan, Jerred, Chelsea, Brittany, Kennedy, Brooklyn, Leslie, Stephen, Aaron; 4 step-grandchildren, Kyle, Amber, Isabella, Sophia; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Reneé Wagner; a grandson, Tracy Dale Nupp; a great-grandson; two brothers, Bill and Ben Reed.
Funeral Mass will be 1 p.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Fr. Patrick Hilgendorf presiding and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus serving as honor guard. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home. A Christian Wake service will be 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Family visitation will follow until 7 p.m. Thursday.
