OTTUMWA-New arrest and incident reports released by the Ottumwa Police Department this week are giving further details into a recent shooting in Ottumwa that landed a Des Moines man in the hospital.
Ottumwa Police Officers were initially called to the Owls Nest Bar, 116 South Court, on a report that a shooting had taken place earlier in the night of Saturday, March 11th. A Police Incident Report now shows that while the initial call to law enforcement was made at 3:23AM, the shooting had actually taken place at approximately 2:09AM. The report also lists the crimes having taken place included Criminal Mischief 5th Degree, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, and Going Armed with Intent. The report states that the door and deadbolt lock on the establishment had been shot during the incident.
OPD immediately began an investigation. At approximately 5:35AM, Officers responded to 1046 Bruce Street, to try and locate a possible victim of the shooting. At that location, Officers located a gunshot victim. Trenton Dale Himes, 25, of Des Moines, had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper torso and was transported to the Ottumwa Regional Health Center for treatment of his injuries. Himes was in stable condition at that time. The Post has no updates on his current condition.
As a result of the investigation, a resident of the Bruce Street address was arrested for the crimes. Cody Alan Pickerell, 27, was arrested at 11:15AM Saturday morning and charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm (Class D Felony) and Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon (Class C Felony). He was taken to Wapello County Jail at that time, and has since bonded out.
In another Ottumwa Police Incident Report from early Saturday morning, the Post has discovered another crime being reported at the Bruce Street address that appears to be connected. At 6:00AM on Saturday, March 11th there was a report of Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree (Class D Felony) at 1046 Bruce Street. The report shows the victim of the crime to be Kendra Lee Himes, 30, of Urbandale. It appears another shooting took place at the address somewhere between 1:30AM and 2:30AM. The second shooting caused damage to Ms. Himes vehicle including the front windshield, interior, front hood, and engine compartment.
