OTTUMWA-Jerry Richard Bride, 76, of Ottumwa, died at 9:41 p.m. March 23, 2017 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
The son of Donald and Bessie Worth Bride, Jerry was born July 12, 1940 in Ottumwa. He married Eleanor Coble in June 1962 and they later divorced. He married Kay Williams on May 3, 1975 in Greentop, MO.
A resident of Ottumwa most of his life, Jerry served with the U.S. Army. He was a truck driver for Purolator, and had worked for J&K Grocery and Grandpa’s Craft & Supplies.
He was a member of the Pony Express of Iowa and had served on their state board, also a member of Drifters Car Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #114 and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Jerry had been a volunteer for the American Red Cross for 10 years.
Surviving is his wife, Kay; three daughters, Monica Bride and Julie Gardner-Wisse both of Oskaloosa, Pamela (Arlen) Anderson of Albia; step-children, Connie (Randy) Crow of Hedrick, Julie (Randy) Vannoy of Farson and Randy (Kim) Williams of Moravia; 16 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; a sister, Patty Fort of Bloomfield; and a nephew, Jeff (Tracy) Fort of Pella.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie Dixon and Donald Bride and brother-in-law, Raymond Fort.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Garry Shepherd officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
