Legislative Forum to Be Held April 1st

OTTUMWA-The League of Women Voters of Ottumwa is co-sponsoring the third Legislative Forum with the Ottumwa Area Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Ottumwa Convention and Visitors Bureau on April 1st, 2017 at Bridge View Center beginning at 9:30AM and ending at 11:AM.

There is no cost. The building is accessible.

League has spoken with Legislators and with those attending our Forums in February and March.  There were equal numbers who favored the structured Forum and those favoring the “Coffee Talk” format.

League will have both kinds of interaction between the Legislators and their constituents at the April 1st Forum.

In the structured portion, persons attending will be asked to write out their questions on cards provided by League;

League members will review the questions to avoid duplication.

A League member will read the question to the Legislators for clarity and time efficiency.

As always, each Legislator will have equal time to answer each question from constituents.

At approximately 10:15AM, League will indicate four seating areas in the room as designated for constituents who want to discuss one of the four legislative issues chosen by League: Water quality, Voter ID, Women’s health, and Gun safety.

Then each Legislator will go to each group, in turn, to answer questions about the specific legislative issues identified for that group.

After 10 minutes, the Legislators will be asked to move to another issue focused group.

League anticipates the space and acoustics of these rooms at BridgeView will allow League to intervene quickly and effectively in the Issues groups so that respect and civility are maintained for everyone.
