OPD Captures Assault Suspect

OTTUMWA-A press release issued late Wednesday night, April 5th, by Ottumwa Police Department Lt. Jason Bell, states that a man wanted for a local assault has been captured.

The press release states:

On Wednesday, April 05, 2017, at approximately 10:05 a.m., Ottumwa Police Officers arrested Anthony “Tony” Gomez, age 26, of 904 Jay Street, on his outstanding arrest warrants. Gomezwas arrested at 505 E. Williams, in Ottumwa.

Gomez was taken into custody on his outstanding arrest warrants for:
  • Domestic Abuse Assault, a Class “D” Felony
  • Willful Injury, a Class “D” Felony
Additionally, Gomez was also charged with Sexual Abuse in the 3rd Degree, a Class “C” Felony, in relation to this incident.
Gomez remains in the custody of the Wapello County Jail with a $60,000 cash only bond. The Police Department would like to thank people in the community who called in and provided
information on Gomez’ whereabouts. This information ultimately led to Gomez being taken into custody.

On Monday, April 3, 2017, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the Ottumwa Police Department responded to the area of 904 Jay Street for a Domestic Violence incident.  A female victim, who resides at 904 Jay Street, was found outside of the residence with multiple injuries.  The victim was transported to the Ottumwa Regional Health Center for treatment and was later released.  Due to concerns for the victim’s safety we are not releasing the victim’s identity at this time.

The Ottumwa Police Department has filed charges on the suspect in this case and request the public assist us in taking him into custody.

Anthony “Tony” Gomez, age 26, of 904 Jay Street is currently wanted for:

  • Domestic Abuse Assault, a Class “D” Felony
  • Willful Injury, a Class “D” Felony

If anyone has information where Gomez is located, they are encouraged to contact the Ottumwa Police Department, or their closest law enforcement agency.

On the morning of April 4, 2017, police executed a search warrant at 904 Jay Street in reference to this investigation.  This investigation is ongoing in nature and additional charges are possible.
