KIRKVILLE – Emery Keith Troxel, affectionately known as Uncle Beard, 62, of Kirkville, died at 1:26 p.m. April 5, 2017 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
He was born March 4, 1955 in Ft. Riley, KS to Daniel K. and Joann Holliday Troxel.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1973, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 8 years, serving as SSgt in the Viet Nam War.
He worked as a mechanic for the City of Ottumwa. He was a member and Elder of the Kirkville Community Church, a former mayor of Kirkville, President and Chaplain of Viet Nam Veterans Motorcycle Club and a supporter of the Christian Motorcycle Association. He enjoyed restoring classic cars, woodworking, traveling and riding his motorcycle. Emery was a large supporter of veteran’s rights and spoke often of those left behind in Viet Nam.
Surviving are his daughters, Samantha Joann Troxel and Michelle Nell; a grandson, Tristan Rhodes; his fiancée, Shelly Kruse; a brother, Warren Troxel of Ottumwa, two sisters, Dyann (Mark) Rupp of Lincoln, NE and Luan (Andrew Kittell) Troxel of Houston, TX; niece and nephews, Hugo Connor Kittell, Alexander Ares Kittell, Anna Kate Troxel and Daniel Lee Troxel; and his service animal and best friend, Mr. B.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, William Keith Troxel and an infant brother, Ronald Gene Troxel.
His body has been cremated.
Services will be Tuesday, April 11th at 10 a.m. at Kirkville Community Church. Visitation will be held Monday, April 10th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kirkville Community Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kirkville Community Church for the “Emery Troxel Memorial Fund”.
