National Public Safety Telecommunications Week April 9-15, 2017

OTTUMWA-The Ottumwa Police Department salutes the 9-1-1 Public Safety Telecommunicators (Dispatchers) serving the citizens of Ottumwa and Wapello County.  The second full week in April is designated each year as National Public Safety Telecommunications Week.

These dedicated women and men are on duty 24 hours a day, every day of the year, ready to answer emergency calls. The Telecommunicator is the first responder to every reported crime, fire and medical scene.  They protect lives and property by receiving vital information and dispatching law enforcement officers, medical professionals and fire personnel to provide direct assistance to the public. This critical role is often underestimated and mostly underappreciated.

By means of the National Public Safety Telecommunications Week we can publicly recognize the outstanding contributions to our community by these dedicated, hardworking people.
