OTTUMWA – Mildred Marie Steele, 84, of 744 Center Ave., died at 5:20 a.m. April 13, 2017 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
She was born October 14, 1932 in Davis County to Lloyd Charles and Elva Lorraine Woods Jones. She married William Luther Steele Jr. on June 18, 1951. He preceded her in death. She was married to Raymond Ware for over 50 years. He preceded her in death September 20, 2010.
She lived her life caring for less fortunate and sick people. She started work at age 16 working for Elsie Mitchell Custodial Home for 16 years. She also worked 26 ½ years at Ottumwa Manor, retiring from there and working in home care for 3 years. She liked music, flowers and dogs. She attended the Bethlehem Christian Church for 2 years while she lived in Floris.
Surviving is a daughter, Susan Watson of Ottumwa; a son, Gary Steele of Ottumwa; 3 grandchildren, Frankie, William and Tasha Watson; a brother, Phil Jones of Ottumwa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Jerry Steele; grandparents; and a brother, Robert Jones.
Graveside services and burial will be 1 p.m. Monday at Shaul Cemetery with Pastor Richard Schlotter officiating.
Casket bearers will be Frankie Watson, William Watson, Dennis Pearson, Norman Wilson, Kevin Wilson, Cory Ruby and Tim Bevins.
