Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra to Present Concert May 6

OTTUMWA — “A Conductor Walks into a Bar…” is the theme of the Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra’s upcoming concert at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, at the Bridge View Center.

The orchestra, under the direction of Dr. William LaRue Jones, will present classical music often heard during cartoons, commercials, movies and television shows.

Musical selections will include The Barber of Seville, the William Tell Overture, Dance of the Hours from “La Gioconda” and the Blue Danube Waltz, along with several others.

Select videos, sure to amuse and entertain, will accompany a few of the pieces. Orchestra members will also be introduced in a most interesting and unique way.

Prior to the concert a 5:30 p.m. cocktail time will be followed by a 6:00 p.m. dinner prepared by Bridge View’s top drawer chef, Chef Bob Newell.

Dinner will include soup, entrée choice of chicken caprese or spaghetti squash, vegetables and dessert. The cost is $35 per person. Reservations must be made by April 30 by calling (641) 684-7000.

Admission to the concert is by season ticket or persons can buy tickets at the door.
