Obituaries: Jackie Eakins

Jackie Marie Eakins, 84, of Fairfield, and formerly of Batavia, IA passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at the Mercy Hospice Care Unit in Iowa City, IA.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at the Cranston Family Funeral Chapel in Batavia.  Visitation will be held at the Cranston Family Funeral Chapel in Batavia on Friday, June 30, 2017 beginning at noon, with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.  Memorial contributions in Jackie’s honor may be directed to the Shriners Children’s Hospital or the Polishville Association, Brighton, IA 52540 to be used for upcoming dances.  Friends may sign the online guestbook at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Jacqueline “Jackie” Marie Eakins was born October 7, 1932 in Oskaloosa, IA to Orrie and Florence (Funk) Davis.  She grew up in the Batavia area, graduating with the Batavia High School Class of 1950.  On April 1, 1951, Jackie was united in marriage to Donald Leroy Eakins in the Open Bible Church in Batavia.  Jackie was a loving wife, and soon became the proud mother of two sons, Randy and Joey.  She spent over 40 years working at Fairfield Line Inc. while also maintaining a loving home for her family.  Jackie attended the United Methodist Church in Batavia and enjoyed going to Brighton, IA to the dances at the Polishville Association Community Center.  She had a passion for traveling, and was proud to say that she had been to all fifty states.  Jackie was a hard worker, as well as a loving wife and mother.  As the years passed she cherished her role as grandmother and great grandmother, enjoying every minute spent with her grandchildren.   She will be deeply missed by her family and those fortunate enough to call her friend.

Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, Donald (1993) and three siblings, Charlotte Pratt, James Davis, and Jerry Davis

Left to honor her memory are her two sons, Randy (Barbara) Eakins of Batavia, IA and Joe Eakins of Eldon, IA;  four grandchildren, Matthew (Sarah) Eakins, Ethan (Jenny) Eakins, Amanda (Lance) Watson, and Clint (Kayla) Eakins; one brother, Larry (Shirley) Davis, as well as seven great grandchildren and many extended family and friends.
