OTTUMWA-James William Hopkins, 82, of Ottumwa, died at 2:44 a.m. August 10, 2017 at Evelyn’s House BJC Hospice in Creve Coeur, MO.
He was born April 17, 1935 in West Grove, IA to William Milo and Bernice Lucille Smith Hopkins. He married Mildred Darlene Renfrew on March 30, 1957.
Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served from 1957-61. He had worked at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 1994.
Surviving is his wife, Mildred; a daughter, Cindy Hopkins Dodson of St. Charles, MO; a son, Eric (Ashley) Hopkins of Ottumwa; a granddaughter, Ashley Brethold of St. Charles, MO; twin great-grandsons, Gavin and Dominick; two sisters, Margaret “Margie” (Gayle) Laughman and Judy (Bill) Benge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Deborah Sue Hopkins; a grandson, Brody Allen Hopkins and two sisters, Jane Hopkins and Mary Lou Lamb.
Graveside services and burial will be 3 p.m. Monday at Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Sunday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
