Roy Eugene Potts, 95, of West Burlington, and formerly of Eldon passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, IA. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 13, 2017 at the Living Hope Bible Church in Eldon, IA. Burial with military honors will be held in the Eldon Cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation will begin at noon on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Eldon, with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Living Hope Bible Church, or the Alzheimer’s Association. Roy Eugene Potts was born October 23, 1921, in Eldon, IA to Owen and Lenora Potts.
Following Roy’s graduation from Eldon High School in 1940, he attended Kansas City Aviation Metalsmith School. He worked at Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego for two years before joining the Navy. He served his country during WWII, and was honorably discharged as an Aviation Metalsmith First Class. He was married to Helen Hart for almost 60 years. She preceded him in death. He later married Evelyn Villinger.
Roy worked as a tankwagon fuel salesman for Johnson Oil Co. and D-X Oil, and retired in 1983. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking.
Roy was a member of the Eldon Christian Church, a member of Wapello County Fair Board, and served as an Eldon Volunteer Fireman for over 25 years.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn; daughters, Sue (David) Ornduff of Oskaloosa, Linda (Rod) Greenwood of Marysville, MI, Becky (Mark) Willhoit of Batavia,
Shelley (Kevin) Peters of Ottumwa; grandchildren, Jeff (Beth) Ornduff, Jenine Simon, Nicolle (Todd) Konkel, Ryan Greenwood, Aaron (Sarah) Greenwood, Andrew (Emily) Willhoit, Eric (Ellie) Willhoit, Justin Peters, Emilee (Miles) Gaston, Ellen Peters, and 15 great grandchildren.
Also surviving are his step-children, Joe (Peggy) Villinger of West Point, Carolyn (Guy) Snyder of Chicago, IL, Susan (Larry) Goodwin of Burlington, Christy (Kevin) Hartman of Burlington, Dawn (Guy) Johnson of Lewistown, MT; 12 step-grandchildren, 23 step- great grandchildren and 3 step-great, great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Helen; two sisters, Pauline Orman and Mildred Carl; and one brother, Marshal Burnett Potts.
