OTTUMWA-Velda M. Patterson, of Ottumwa, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.
She was born September 6, 1915 in Pierce City, MO to Glen and Pauline Hilker Prevo. She married Milton C. Patterson in 1941 in Washington, D.C. and he preceded her in death on May 4, 2009.
She attended college in Springfield, MO earning a teaching certificate and then taught elementary grades in rural Missouri. Later she went to Washington, D.C. and worked at The Bureau of Engraving and Printing.

She was a member of King’s Daughters and volunteered at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. She loved gardening and enjoyed playing Bridge. She always read and studied and was so curious about the world around her. She kept learning and seeking answers. At her 100th birthday she exclaimed “even though I am 100 years old, I still don’t know everything!”
Most of all, she loved and cared for her family. She lived a beautiful long life of almost 103 years full of kindness, love and giving.
