OHS Trapshooters Compete at State Competition

OTTUMWA— Several OHS trapshooters did very well at the Iowa State Shoot this past weekend. The event was sponsored by the Iowa State Trapshooting Association.

The JV squad finished fifth in the state with a score of 912 targets (clay birds) broken out of 1,000. Squad scores included:

  • Brae Simmers   195 of 200 w/3 perfect 25’s (75 straight)
  • Zach Ross         191 w/two perfect 25’s (50 straight)
  • Josh Goben       182 w/ one perfect 25
  • Ryan Klein         173 w/ one perfect 25
  • Cole Van Nest   171

Seven JV shooters competed, including a squad of five and two alternates. Alternates and their scores included:

  • Jaxton Elliott 187 w/2 perfect 25’s
  • Brody Adam  160 (shooting from a stool due to knee injury)

Brae Simmers took 5th Place overall as an individual by shooting down two other competitors that tied with him for 5th, 6th, and 7th place! He had a score of 195 of 200 with three perfect rounds in a row (75 targets)! During the shoot off, he got another perfect 25 and a 24 to earn fifth place.

Two varsity shooters competed as individuals. Madison Konrad finished with a 187 out of 200 with one perfect round score of 25.  Dylan Marlay shot a score of 177 with 1 perfect 25.
