OTTUMWA-Debra Lynn Burnstedt, 55, of Ottumwa, died at 11:49 p.m. August 7, 2018 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on her way home from Sturgis.
She was born May 14, 1963 in Ottumwa to Robert Lee and Barbara Jean Price Stevens. She married Robert Brisendine on July 28, 1984 and they later divorced. Deb married Todd Burnstedt on October 12, 2007.
Growing up in Chillicothe, Deb was a 1981 graduate of Eddyville High School. She graduated from Indian Hills Community College with secretarial training. Deb had worked as a secretary for an accounting firm before becoming a secretary for Ottumwa High School for nearly 30 years.
Deb enjoyed working on projects around home and was a honey beekeeper. She enjoyed riding motorcycles with her Sturgis family and spending time with her kids and grandkids.
Surviving is her husband, Todd; children, twins Ryan (Mallory) Brisendine of Ottumwa and Jacki (Adam) Baker of Blakesburg, Dalton (Whitney) Burnstedt of Floris; 4 grandchildren, Marissa Baker, Grant Baker , Elliot Burnstedt and Ollie Burnstedt; her parents, Robert and Barbara Stevens of Chillicothe; sister, Roxanna Dawn Stevens of Bellevue, NE and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gary and Judy Burnstedt of Ottumwa.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Leila Disburg officiating. Burial will be in the Chillicothe Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Sunday with the family present from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Chillicothe Cemetery Association or Ottumwa Community Schools for a scholarship to be named in her memory.
