ELDON – Mae Maxine Scherer, 92, of Eldon, died at 8:08 p.m. October 5, 2018 at her home.
She was born April 10, 1926 in Ottumwa to Frank E. and Ida Mae McFarland Hurley. She married Donald Richard Scherer on February 25, 1948 and he preceded her in death on June 25, 2016.
A 1943 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Maxine had worked a few years at Northwestern Bell in Ottumwa as an operator.
She attended Living Hope Bible Church. Maxine was an avid reader of books and a big fan of Cardinal School. She loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, and playing Bunco with her friends. She also enjoyed birds, particularly cardinals.
Surviving are her children, Richard (P.J.) Scherer of Ft. Worth, TX, David (Lucy) Scherer, Ron (Kim) Scherer, Craig Scherer and Lisa (Rick) Denton all of Eldon; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Carol Wymer; 4 brothers, Howard Hurley, Floyd Hurley, Edward Hurley, Harold Hurley; 2 sisters, Joan Woodard and twin, M. Marcine Harrington.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Living Hope Bible Church in Eldon with Pastor Mark Clark officiating. Burial will be in Eldon Cemetery.
Visitation will begin 10 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
