OTTUMWA – The Indian Hills Community College Department of Performing and Visual Arts will present a special performance featuring jazz trombonist Bret Zvacek in the Formal Lounge (next to the Library) on the IHCC Ottumwa campus on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 7:00 p.m. The performance is free and open to the public.
Saxophonist David Sharp, pianist Nick Rueckert, bassist Blake Shaw, and drummer Dennis McPartland will accompany Zvacek. The quintet will perform numerous jazz and popular standards.
Zvacek has performed with numerous other jazz artists including Kenny Wheeler, Gene Bertoncini, and The Woody Herman Orchestra. Since September 2005, Zvacek has served as the Musical Director of the Central New York Jazz Orchestra (Syracuse), collaborating with artists including Phil Woods, Hubert Laws, Bobby Watson, Joe Locke, and others. He has written big band jazz music for numerous professional and student ensembles, has written for orchestra, and has arranged and conducted various ensembles for New York studios. Zvacek has held teaching positions at University of North Texas, McGill University, and at The Crane School of Music in Potsdam, NY, where he currently is Professor of Music and Director of Jazz Studies. Zvacek is also a clinician and performing artist for the Yamaha Corporation of America.
