OTTUMWA – Bill Hornback has been hired as the interim pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Ottumwa while the church searches for a full-time pastor.
Hornback was ordained with Open Bible Churches in 1979. He served as pastor in eight churches in three states, the last of which was a 15-year tenure at First Church of the Open Bible in Ottumwa. He retired from there about 18 months ago.
“I have enjoyed retirement, but I feel that God has led me to this wonderful congregation of people at First Presbyterian Church,” Hornback said.
“My commission in ministry is to preach the word of God and love his people,” he said. “That is what I have practiced all of the years I have been in ministry. I am very excited to continue the same in this church family.”
Hornback and his wife, Kathy, have raised two daughters and five sons. They have 19 grandchildren.
Hornback is active with the Ottumwa Community Players. He has acted in 11 plays and directed two productions.
First Presbyterian Church is located at the corner of Fourth and Marion Streets in Ottumwa. Hornback will lead the church’s weekly service, which begins at 9:30 each Sunday morning.
