OTTUMWA – The Ottumwa Fire Department responded on Sunday February 3, 2019 at 12:10pm to a fire at 1006 Tuttle Street where a single family residential structure was found to be heavily involved with fire.
The first arriving fire engine responded from Station 2 with three firefighters and was on scene within four minutes of the initial dispatch. Upon arrival they located a male victim from the fire just outside the front door. He was quickly moved to safety and medical treatment was initiated as was fire attack. The second responding fire engine with three personnel arrived approximately two minutes after the first arriving fire engine and began assisting with water supply and fire suppression. A second alarm was call for and six additional off duty firefighters responded.
Patient care was transferred to ORMICS which is the ambulance based out of Ottumwa Regional Health Center. They transported to Ottumwa Regional and the patient was later transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals and current condition is unknown.
The fire was deemed out at 3:30 pm and the structure is considered a total loss. The fire cause is under investigation. The victim is identified as William Theodore Beall 74 of this address. Beall died at the University of Iowa Hospitals Burn Center at 7:45 pm on Sunday February 3, 2019. The Ottumwa Fire Department was assisted at this scene by the Ottumwa Police Department, ORMICS and the Wapello County EMA.
