Obituaries: Ronald “Deano” Sargent

Ronald “Deano” Sargent of rural Bloomfield passed from this life to an eternal life with Jesus on Sunday morning March 10, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur, IL after a sudden heart attack. He was born September 2, 1942 in Springfield, IL to Paul Eugene & Edna Earl Sargent. He graduated from Auburn High School in 1961 where he enjoyed participating in all sports. He then attended Southern Illinois University where he received his Associate Degree in Electronics.

Deano started his telephone career after graduating college with General Telephone in Lincoln, IL and Monticello, IL. He then moved to Iowa and worked for the United Telephone Company. On September 23, 1967 he married Sandra Hesse at Stiles, IA. They were blessed with a son, Tim Sargent of Bloomfield, IA and a daughter, Melinda Bray of Moweaqua, IL. In 1970 he began working for CMTEL in Bloomfield and was there for 38 years before retiring.

He was a member and elder of the Stiles Christian Church and served on the board of I-MO Christian Camp for several years. He loved working for the Lord, being with his family, and visiting with people. He was definitely a people person.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy; son, Tim (Cheryl) Sargent of Bloomfield; daughter, Melinda (Jami) Bray of Moweaqua, IL; four grandsons, Andrew (Payton) Bray, Ben Bray, Taylor Sargent, Trace Sargent, and one great-granddaughter, Addison Bray; two brothers, Richard (Joanne) Sargent of Lebanon, OR, Roger (Marcia) Sargent of Ramsey, IL; one sister, Sharon (Gary) Shull of Rockford, IL; sister’s-in-law, Dorothy (Ron) Strukely of Virdon, IL and Linda Sargent of Charlotte, NC; brother-in-law, Bill (Judy) Hesse of West Burlington, IA; along with many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Gene & Ken Sargent.

He was deeply loved by all his family and friends and will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Stiles Christian Church with his minister and friend Kramer Smith presiding. Burial will follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday with family present to greet friends from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Stiles Christian Church or I-MO Christian Camp.
