OTTUMWA-Charles Raymond Barker, 82, of Ottumwa, died at 2:15 p.m. April 11, 2019 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
He was born April 22, 1936 in Sunman, IN to Lee Arthur and Stella G. Robbins Barker. Charles married Barbara A. Shearer and she preceded him in death in January 2011. He married Mary Ann Gates on April 29, 2016.
Charles had managed the automotive department at K-Mart, managed a truck stop on I-80 and owned a small mechanic business in Denver, CO, retiring in 2000.
He attended The Bridge Church in Ottumwa. He had a lifetime membership to get into State parks, was a member of AARP and loved to do anything outdoors. Charles enjoyed doing yardwork, had built decks and was self-taught in doing everything.
Charles is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; step-children, Sam Halferty (Ken Lee) of Chicago, IL, Don (Yolanda) Halferty of North Liberty, Kirby (Valerie) Halferty of Mechanicsville, VA and Paula (Roger) Cary of Ottumwa; 15 step-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; 2 special nieces, Brenda Parcel of Ottumwa and Crystal Davier of Indianola and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents and siblings, Crystal Benham, infant Raymond, Clyde, William, Ivan and Robert Barker; and a nephew, Alan Shearer.
His body has been cremated.
The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home.
