BLAKESBURG – Evelyn M. Howe, 79, of Blakesburg, died at 6:25 a.m. May 11, 2019 at Monroe County Hospital in Albia.
She was born September 13, 1939 in Ottumwa to Earl C. and Margery Millard Gray. Evelyn married Larry Howe and he preceded her in death on March 16, 2018.
A 1956 graduate of Blakesburg High School, Evelyn and her husband lived in Florida for over 40 years, moving back to Blakesburg in 2003.
She had worked at Cape Canaveral in Florida, in various banks and for Walmart in Ottumwa for 10 years, retiring in January 2019.
Evelyn was a member of Blakesburg Christian Church, Blakesburg Garden Club, Blakesburg Development Corporation and the Blakesburg Lions Club. She loved taking care of her family. Evelyn was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed music and watching sports.
She is survived by her daughter, Lori (Richard) Williams of Vero Beach, FL; step-daughter, Terri Lynn Laughlin of Safford, AZ; step-son, Larry James Howe Jr. of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; siblings, Alan (Nancy) Gray of Ottumwa, Richard L. (Tula) Gray and Sharon (Jim) Daugherty both of Blakesburg; sister-in-law, Vikki Waller of Cedar Rapids; many nieces, nephews and a lot of friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; two grandsons, Caleb and Alden Albrecht and step-son, Mark Allen Howe.
Her body has been cremated.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at noon Thursday at Blakesburg Christian Church.
A time for friends to greet family will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blakesburg Development Corporation, Blakesburg Christian Church or Blakesburg Lions Club.
