OTTUMWA – Donald Leroy Frueh, 85, of Ottumwa died at 9:49 a.m. June 8, 2019 at home.
He was born May 26, 1934 in Bladensburg, IA to Raymond and Dorothy Strong Frueh. He married Jolene Ann McCall on January 29, 1955 and she preceded him in death on June 23, 2010.
A resident of Ottumwa all his life, he was a 1952 graduate of Ottumwa High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1961.
He had worked at Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Company for 34 years retiring in 1996.
Don coached Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. He loved going to casinos and to Las Vegas, loved the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears where he was a fan of both teams since 1943 and loved his kids and grandkids.
Surviving are three daughters, Becky (Mike) Bonney of Atlantic, Terry (Tom) Grooms of Eddyville and Dolene Houk of Ottumwa; a son, Mark Frueh of Ottumwa; 8 grandchildren, Casey Bonney, Jennifer Anderson, Allison Bonney, Randi Kpati, Jessica Garcia, Bradley Frueh, Tonya Messer and Grant Grooms; 16 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Bennett of Lake Elsinore, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Daena Ryan; a great granddaughter, Aaliyah Frueh-Garcia; and a brother, Bob Frueh.
Per his wishes, his body has been cremated and no services are planned.
A memorial dinner will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ottumwa Community Church, 305 S. Walnut, Ottumwa, IA 52501.
