OHS Team Places First in Electrical Competition

OTTUMWA— Associated Builders and Contractors of Iowa hosted a Craft Championship, High School Challenges, and Career Day at the Iowa State Fairground on Friday, November 22.  Approximately 20 students from the OHS Bulldog Construction and Bulldog Manufacturing programs competed in the event, with teams entering Construction,  Electrical, and Welding competitions.

The OHS team in the Electrical Competition finished in 1st place against 10 other high schools. Team members were OHS seniors, Alex Lingren and Tyler McCoy. The Construction team placed 16th against 25 other schools in the construction of a large dog house. Five welders competed individually against a dozen other schools with multiple welders entered.

The district’s electrician, Lindsey Beinhart, volunteered his time to help coach the electrical team.  The students met with him at 6 a.m. every day for two weeks prior to the competition.  Thanks to 3E electrical supply store for donating items for training purposes.
