OTTUMWA-Darlene Anne Carman, 90, of Ottumwa, died at 7:47 p.m. December 1, 2019 at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.
She was born July 4, 1929 in Ottumwa to Clarence and Emma Claypool Orman. Darlene married Glen Carman on September 21, 1947 and he preceded her in death on July 27, 2012.
A 1947 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Darlene had been a resident of Ottumwa all of her life. she had worked as a secretary for the Ottumwa School District for 24 years, retiring in 1994. She had volunteered at the Ottumwa Public Library and Evans Middle School.
Darlene was a member of the Ottumwa Retired School Personnel Association. She was an avid bowler, traveler and loved reading.
Surviving are her children, Steve (Debra) Carman of Keokuk, Brian (Sue) Carman of Ottumwa, Robert “Bob” Carman (Cheryl Schwickerath) of Eddyville and Cheryl (Dennis) Martsching of Ottumwa; 6 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a great-grandson and a sister, Joyce Johnston.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday followed by a service at 7 p.m. with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating.
A private burial service will be held at Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ottumwa Public Library.
