Obituaries: J. Stanley Baughman

J. Stanley Baughman, 85, of Pulaski, Iowa passed away February 10, 2020 at the Hiawatha Care Center in Hiawatha, Iowa. He was born on December 3, 1934 at his family home in rural Pulaski, Iowa to J. Alvin and Frances Widmer Baughman. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1952 and attended farming classes at Iowa State University during the winter after high school while also farming with his dad. Stanley served in the Army and while being transported to Germany via ship, his father passed away. As a result, he returned home shortly after arriving in Germany. He was a lifelong farmer of his family’s century farm and was active as the farm manager until the past few years when he moved to Hiawatha Care Center. His son, Rodney, now continues to manage the farm.

In 1957, Stanley married Gloria Shelton Baughman and the couple had four children; Alan, Gina, Rodney, and Lisa. Family was very important to him and he enjoyed his time and many phone calls with his daughters, sons, grandchildren, and new great-grandson as-well-as his many special friends. Although Stanley didn’t leave the farm very often, he did enjoy traveling to see his sister Gayle and brother Eugene and their families in California.

Stanley was a member of the Pulaski Mennonite Church and in more recent years attended First Baptist Church in Bloomfield. His faith was very important to him.

He is survived by his children, Gina (Charles) Burket of Grimes, Iowa, Rodney Baughman of Bloomfield, Lisa (Michael) Orosz of Marion, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Matthew Burket, Megan Burket, Kathryen Baughman, Carter Orosz, Cameron Orosz, twins Chloe and Caitlyn Orosz; great-grandson, Judge Campbell; sister, Gayle (Charlie) McGrew of Westminster, California; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Jon Alan Baughman; and two brothers, Eugene Baughman, David Baughman.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 17, 2020 at the Pulaski Mennonite Church with Pastor Kramer Smith officiating. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery in Davis County, Iowa. Graveside military Rites will be performed by Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion. Memorials have been established to the Pulaski Mennonite Church and the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield.
