BLOOMFIELD-Elizabeth “Betty” Houk, 91, of Bloomfield, Iowa, went home to be with the Lord on June 28, 2020 at Ridgewood Specialty Care Center in Ottumwa, after battling cancer for over a year.
She was born May 6, 1929 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Edward and Paula Jemison Stater. Betty graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1947, and was united in marriage to Gilbert Houk on February 26, 1956. Together they farmed land in rural Ottumwa for more than a half century.
Betty enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, and serving at her church, Living Hope Bible Church in Eldon, Iowa, where she was an active member until recently. She also belonged to a neighborhood club for many years. She will be dearly missed by her husband, family, and many close friends.
Betty is survived by her husband, Gilbert L. Houk; brothers, Larry (Joan) Stater of Queen Creek, AZ, John Stater of Cedar Falls, IA, and Rick Stater of Henderson, NV; sisters, Paula Boone of Ewing, MO and Grace Sparling of Chicago, IL; sisters-in-law, Joyce Foster of Bloomfield, IA and Kathy Stater of Ottumwa, IA; special friend, Pat Marts; and many special nieces and nephews and close neighborhood friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Phyllis Pilcher; three brothers, Edwin Stater, George Stater, and infant, Edward, Jr; and brothers-in-law, Keith Boone and Stewart Sparling.
Limited open visitation for friends will be Thursday, July 2nd from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Reece Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left for the family at http://www.rfh-ia.com.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, July 3rd at Living Hope Bible Church in Eldon with Pastor Mark Clark officiating.
Burial will be in Fiedler Cemetery.
