Asphalt Work on Richmond and Ferry St.

OTTUMWA – The City of Ottumwa’s annual Asphalt Street Program is scheduled to begin this week.  Work will occur in three phases.  The first phase, on Richmond Avenue between Ferry and Milner, will begin on Thursday, October 15th.  Richmond will be closed to through traffic but the intersections at Carlisle and Webster are not affected, so all businesses will be accessible from side streets.  Detours will be posted.  This work is expected to take one day.

Phase two, on the east end of Richmond between Milner and Church Street, is expected to begin on Friday, October 16th.  Westbound traffic will have to detour at the Five Corners, but Richmond will remain open to eastbound traffic.  Flaggers will direct traffic inside the work area.    This work is expected to take one day.

The final portion of work is on Ferry Street between Richmond and Chester.  Milling is scheduled to occur on Saturday, October 17th and paving on Monday, October 19th.  Ferry Street will be closed to traffic while work is being performed.  It is expected to be fully open to traffic by Monday evening.

The City asks that motorists be understanding of the temporary delays and detours. Asphalt paving has an extremely fast construction time and once the paving crews are done the public will be able to enjoy a safe, smooth street for years to come.
